How it all began...
Our journey to the opening began on 01.03.2020. With a great vision in mind, we signed the lease. Our Ethiopian restaurant, the Lalibela, was to emerge from an old, dilapidated pharmacy. We had many plans and wishes and were full of drive to open an Ethiopian oasis in Kreuzberg
A long road with many hurdles.
But then everything came differently. Corona came to Germany and thwarted our plans. From one lockdown to the next, we weren't the only ones affected. The entire restaurant industry suffered the consequences of the closures.
The necessary renovation and refurbishment work fell by the wayside, we were forced to remain at a standstill.
There were many moments when we would have preferred to throw in the towel. We were often put off, had to scrap our plans and find possible alternatives.
Again and again, the Corona measures stopped us and we had to postpone our opening plans several times.
The wait was worth it:
Even if these two years were marked by a lot of frustration, we never lost sight of the idea of our Lalibela in Kreuzberg. Therefore, we are very happy to welcome you after now more than two years full of hurdles, from 02.05.2022 in our restaurant Lalibela.
How a wish became a vision...
Our desire was to bring the food of our culture to the capital. Therefore, in 2018 we dared to start a pilot project - so our wish turned into a vision.
We have brought the cuisine of Ethiopia to Neukölln. You can find our first restaurant at Herrfurthstraße 32, in 12049 Berlin. We have there a small, cozy place with a few tables. Since we have encountered a lot of interest and crowds in a very short time, the desire to expand us was quickly clear. The Lalibela in Kreuzberg is our second restaurant. We are very happy to bring the taste of Ethiopia now also to Kreuzberg and thus expand the culinary offer around the Görlitzer Park.
